Our club call is KH6EJ, and we are located on the eastern side of the Big Island of Hawaii. As we are on the windward side of the island, it is also known as the "wet side". Anyone that has attended one of our functions would immediately understand, as rain is a normal part of most of our activities.

Our locators:

  • ARRL Region: 13
  • ARRL Pacific Section (PAC)
  • CQ Zone 31
  • Grid Square BK29
  • IOTA OC19
  • ITU Zone 61
  • ITU Region 2
  • State: Hawaii;   County: Hawaii

BIARC was incorporated in June 30, 1975. Before that date, we may have existed informally under another name. We currently have about 114 members, and are growing.

We participate in several group activities througout the year, including Field Day and the Kilauea Volcano Wilderness Runs, a number of footraces held on the slopes of the volcano.

One of the events we participate in is the Annual Big Island International Hamfest, held on the Second Saturday in October in Waimea. For more information, click on the Hamfest link at the left.

Since we "live on the biggest rock in the middle of the largest pond on the planet" (as our webmaster puts it)nearly everything is DX from here. Excepting a few other islands, it's somewhat over 2,300 miles to the nearest land. Of course, being near a salt water ground plane has it's benefits, but operating from here can still be a challenge!

Feel free to explore our site, and if you have suggestions or comments, please let us know by clicking on one of the links at the bottom of each page and filling out one of the forms. These forms are used in place of a simple mailto because of the harvesting of email addresses by spammers.
